|EMSB STUDENTS LEND THEIR VOICES TO RETELL LEGENDARY STORY|
MONTREAL, FEBRUARY 20, 2013 – The choirs from Pierre de Coubertin in St. Leonard, Sinclair Laird in Park Extension and Gardenview in St. Laurent, recently joined musicians from across Canada to create a CD which will complement Time for Flowers, Time for Snow: a book written by Governor General Award winner Glen Huser.
Time for Flowers, Time for Snow will bring readers on a mythical and musical adventure to Ancient Greece as it retells the legend of the goddess Demeter, her daughter Persephone and how the seasons came to be. Set for release across North America, the net profits from the local book sales will stay within the school the system and serve as a fundraiser.
Both Huser and the 150 participating EMSB students, whom are being led by Pierre de Coubertin and Gardenview Choir Director Dimitris Ilias and Sinclair Laird Choir Director Maria Diamantis, will be on hand on Friday, February 22 (8 p.m.) at the Hellenic Community Centre (5757 Wilderton Ave) for a press conference introducing the local community to the project.
The students will also be conducting a half-hour rehearsal on February 21 (7:30 p.m). at the Hellenic Community Centre. Huser will be in attendance and the rehearsal is open to the media.
In addition to Huser, who also penned the lyrics, Philippe Béha, a three-time Governor General Award winner, served as the illustrator while the music was composed by Giannis Georgantelis, a native and resident of Athens, Greece.
The book will officially be launched on October 4, 2013 at Montreal City Hall. Four days later, on October 8, 2013 it will be unveiled nationally at the Parliament in Ottawa and a final launch will take place on October 10, 2013 at the Laval City Hall.
