MONTREAL, APRIL 9, 2013 – On the 33rd anniversary of the beginning of the Marathon of Hope, Eddy Nolan, the head caretaker at Roslyn Elementary School in Westmount will honour Terry Fox by once again running a marathon along Sherbrooke Street West in Montreal.
On Friday, April 12, Nolan will begin his run at 9:30 a.m., leaving Action Sport Physio at the corner of Westminster and Sherbrooke.
Anthony Calvillo, starting quarterback for the Montreal Alouettes will run a portion of the marathon with Nolan, while Marc Garneau, Member of Parliament for Westmount-Ville Marie will be on hand to cheer him on.
Nolan’s marathon comes two weeks following the English Montreal School Board Council of Commissioners decision to recognize April 12 as Terry Fox Day. The move, which was inspired by Nolan and backed by Vice Chair Sylvia Lo Bianco, was a first amongst school boards in Quebec and other school boards have been encouraged to follow the EMSB’s lead.
Nolan has been instrumental in the EMSB’s efforts to honor Terry Fox for three decades. With Nolan at the helm, Roslyn has raised over $210,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation since 2000. In a terrible irony, like Fox, he was diagnosed with cancer in recent years and is now in remission.
