|EMSB CLOSES ONE SCHOOL, MERGES TWO OTHERS; DECISION ON M.I.N.D. DELAYED|
MONTREAL, JANUARY 16, 2002– The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) Council of Commissioners has voted in favor of closing one school, merging two others while delaying a final decision on whether or not to close M.I.N.D. High School.
Council members supported recommendations from The Long Range Planning Committee for the enrolment of Nazareth Elementary School on the Plateau to be consolidated with nearby Bancroft. In Montreal North, meanwhile, the enrolment of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Junior High School will be consolidated with Lester B. Pearson High School. As a consequence, the General Vanier Adult Education Centre in St. Michel will relocate to the Sir Wilfrid Laurier facility. M.I.N.D. High School has been given until February 27 to boost its student numbers for next year.
The changes will take effect in the 2002-2003 academic year.
