MONTREAL, MAY 22, 2013- The Consul General of Israel, Joel Lion, will present an award to students from Vincent Massey Collegiate in recognition of their having won a video contest organized by the Consulate General of Israel in Montreal in honour of the centennial of Raoul Wallenberg's birth. Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat who saved the lives of more than 2,000 Hungarian Jews during the Second World War.
This project featured the participation of Jewish and non-Jewish schools from across Greater Montreal and came to light with the participation of partners including the English Montreal School Board, the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre, the Riva and Thomas O. Hecht Scholarship Program, Teaching of the Holocaust for Educators, as well the Consulate General of the United States of America, the Honorary Consulate General of Sweden, the office of Mount Royal MP Irwin Cotler and the City of Côte-Saint-Luc.
Students participating in the project were asked to create a short video demonstrating the significance of Raoul Wallenberg's legacy today. The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 22, 6pm at FEDERATION CJA, 1 Cummings Square.
