ROYAL WEST STUDENTS TO HAVE CONFERENCE CALL WITH GOVERNOR GENERAL

MONTREAL, MAY 29, 2013 – His Excellency the Right Honorable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada will pay a virtual visit to Marcela Henriquez’s Grade 8 class at Royal West Academy (189 Easton) in Montreal West on Friday, May 31 at 11 a.m. in recognition of two students who captured one of the three winning entries in the National Student Banner Contest.

Entitled “A Taste of Canada” Grade 8 students Shalee Walsh and Jennifer Mashaal were one of three pairs across the country to win the contest, which was to design a banner that represents Canada. A full-size version of their banner will fly in Major’s Hill Park in Ottawa. It will be accompanied by interpretation panels listing the students names, school, grade, city, province and a brief description adapted from the text they submitted.

The conversation with Johnston will last one hour and include the two other schools with winning entries. Additionally, students will also have a private session to discuss the winning banner and direct questions towards Johnston.

Royal West Academy has participated in this contest for three of the past four years, winning on two occasions.
