ROYAL WEST STUDENTS CHAT WITH GOVERNOR GENERAL

MONTREAL, JUNE 3, 2013 – His Excellency the Right Honorable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada spent some time with Marcela Henriquez’s Grade 8 class at Royal West Academy recently when he invited the students to take a virtual visit to Rideau Hall.

Royal West Academy joined Winfield Junior High from North York, Ontario and Jack Donohue Public School from Kanata, Ontario in a video-conference honoring the three winning schools in the National Student Banner Contest.

Representing Royal West Academy were Grade 8 students Shalee Walsh and Jennifer Mashaal, who had the opportunity to present their project “A Taste of Canada.” Walsh and Mashaalwere one of three pairs across the country to win a contest that was to design a banner representative of Canada. A full-size version of their banner will fly in Major’s Hill Park in Ottawa.

Following their presentation, Walsh and Mashaal had the opportunity to ask Johnston three questions on behalf of their class.
