|WESTMOUNT PARK BOUNCING BACK TO BOOKS|
MONTREAL, AUGUST 14, 2013 – While the school bell will not officially ring until the end of the month, Westmount Park Elementary School (15 Park Place) once again opened its doors early to host Boys Bouncing Back To Books: their fifth annual literacy summer camp.
The camp, which builds on a theme put in place during the school year, invites students to come back to school for the first two weeks of August and work with teachers and counselors to turn their theme into a visual project.
The project, a music video based on the theme of “The Right to Go To School” will be premiered on Friday, August 16 (10:30 a.m.). The theme aligns with Westmount Park’s status as a UNICEF Rights Respecting School.
Following the showing, students will have a basketball game, award ceremony and the day will culminate in a BBQ for families in attendance.
Annually, work on the video project begins during the year when former campers and future Counselors-In-Training, whom attend Westmount High School and Marymount Academy in N.D.G., work with students to come up with key words and phrases through discussion groups. By the conclusion of the year, the groups incorporate audio, allowing the video and editing to be shot during the camp.
In addition to the main project, students also have a wide range of scholastic and athletic activities at camp. Over the course of the two weeks, the camp also welcomes a number of guest speakers as well as students take a variety of field trips.
