|SUBWAY HERO KERIANNE WILSON AMONG THREE EMSB BOARD OF TRADE WINNERS|
MONTREAL, MAY 22, 2002— Royal West Academy student Kerianne Wilson, who gained headlines recently for her heroic rescue of a man on the Montreal Metro system tracks, was among three English Montreal School Board (EMSB) medal winners at the 20th annualBoard of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal Outstanding Student Awards Program.
Held at the Wyndam Hotel, the event recognized noteworthy personal creative projects completed by Secondary V and vocational education students attending Montreal area schools. All of the finalists were interviewed by jury members in their respective categories. They had to maintain an average of at least 80 percent to qualify.
Ms. Wilson, who has been nominated for the Governor General’s Medal for Bravery, won the gold prize in the Arts category. Vanessa Geiring of Rosemount Technology Centre was a silver prize winner in Vocational Studies while Antonio Pistilli of John F. Kennedy High School in St. Michel captured bronze in Sciences/Mathematics.
The EMSB had a number of other student finalists: Rebecca Rosen of FACE downtown and Kristina Partsinevelos of LaurenHill in St. Laurent in Arts; Sonia Kovacic of Lester B. Pearson High School in Montreal North and Natascia Tamburello of Vincent Massey in Rosemount in Social Sciences; Sofiyah Malhi of Royal Vale in N.D.G. and Mathieu Rousseau of Royal West in Sciences/Mathematics; and Hal A.H, Burnett and Peter Byron, also of Rosemount Technology Centre, in Vocational Studies.
