EMSB COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY OPPOSES “QUEBEC VALUES” CHARTER

MONTREAL, AUGUST 29,  2013-     The English Montreal School Board Council of Commissioners has unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the “Quebec Values” charter being proposed by the Parti Québecois government.

“The EMSB is categorically opposed to any legislation which may prohibit public employees from wearing religious headgear or other religious symbols in the performance of their professional responsibilities in the public sector,” stated EMSB Commissioner Syd Wise, who moved the resolution. “We view this proposal as divisive, inflammatory and discriminatory to those employees whose wearing of a hijab, yarmulke or crucifix is an expression of their personal beliefs and not the business of government.”
