|SURGE OF INTEREST IN SPORTS CONCENTRATION PROMPTS WALLENBERG ACADEMY TO REVISE PLANNING SCHEDULE|
MONTREAL, OCTOBER 17, 2013- Plans to introduce a new high school in Côte Saint-Luc called Wallenberg Academy continue to move forward. Following a recent open house, there has been a surge of interest in the sports concentration options and as a result proposed placement exams have been delayed in order for a number of meetings with different associations to take part.
English Montreal School Board Commissioner Dr. Syd Wise said that the objective remains to launch the new school in August 2014 for Secondary I and possibly Secondary II students. In addition to a challenging curriculum and sports concentration (swimming, soccer, tennis, supplemental physical education), there will be opportunities for enriched programming such as heritage language studies, music, drama and robotics.
Parents who have already submitted an application to the school have been contacted informing them that the exams will be held at a later date. “We also have a lot of interest in our heritage languages,” said Dr. Wise. “We have been clear to everyone though that we will not start this school until we have a critical mass. Over the last few months we have made significant progress on the sports concentration front and we need some time to expand upon that.”
