|EMSB AGREES ON TWO SCHOOL MERGERS; DECISION ON M.I.N.D. DELAYED|
MONTREAL, JANUARY 16, 2002– The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) Council of Commissioners has voted in favor of two school merger proposals and delayed making a decision on whether or not to close M.I.N.D. High School.
Council members supported recommendations from The Long Range Planning Committee for Nazareth and Bancroft Elementary Schools, both situated in the Plateau area, to merge and be housed in the latter facility. In Montreal North, meanwhile, the enrolment of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Junior High School will be consolidated with Lester B. Pearson High School. As a consequence, the General Vanier Adult Education Centre in St. Michel will relocate to the Sir Wilfrid Laurier facility. M.I.N.D. High School has been given until February 27 to boost its student numbers for next year.
The changes will take effect in the 2002-2003 academic year.
