MONTREAL, NOVEMBER 27, 2013 – In preparation for the holidays, the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) is teaming up with the Canadian Armed Forces to support CTV Montreal’s annual “Spirit of Giving” campaign, which brings much needed assistance to the less fortunate throughout Montreal. The EMSB Communications and Marketing Division is once again coordinating the program.
Until December 11, non-perishable food, toys and miscellaneous items, such as soap and cleaning supplies, will be collected, sorted and donated to Share The Warmth, West Island Assistance Fund, Renaissance Montreal, Multicaf, Parc Extension Share Store, Le Bon Dieu Dans La Rue, the N.D.G. Food Depot and La Mosaique. In all, the combined efforts of the EMSB, its schools and facilities will hopefully generate over 600 boxes of non-perishable food, and over 40,000 toys and miscellaneous items.
Thirty-eight schools and centres will take part in the campaign as well as some community organizations. The St. Laurent Adult Centre will serve as the main hub for the collection. Marysa Barassi, the principal of the school, is excited to take part in the campaign and serve as the hub for the first time.
Donations can be brought to the following schools and centres: James Lyng High School in St. Henri; Rosemount High School and Vincent Massey Collegiate in Rosemount; St. Dorothy in St. Michel; Dalkeith Elementary in Anjou; Edward Murphy School in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve; Cedarcrest, Gardenview and Parkdale Elementary Schools, St. Laurent Adult Centre and Annex, and LaurenHill Academy (Senior Campus) in St. Laurent; St. Monica Elementary School, Royal Vale School in N.D.G.; Coronation Elementary School in Cote-des-Neiges; Dunrae Gardens and Carlyle Elementary School in the Town of Mont-Royal; Elizabeth Ballantyne in Montreal West; Sinclair Laird in Park Extension; East Hill and Michelangelo Elementary Schools in Riviere-des-Prairies; Merton Elementary School in Côte St. Luc; Hampstead Elementary School; St. Pius Adult Centre, John Caboto Academy and Our Lady of Pompei in Ahuntsic; Galileo Adult Centre, Gerald McShane Elementary School and Lester B. The donations will be transported to the collection centre at the St. Laurent Adult Centre by the Canadian Armed forces, led by Master Corporal John Petrou and members of Canadian Grenadier Guards. Students from the St. Laurent Adult Centre will also be volunteering to sort through the items once they are delivered.
Many of the participating EMSB schools will organize a series of events set to encourage donations, and a number of schools will be featured on CTV Montreal’s mid-day and nightly news programs throughout the duration of the campaign.
"Every item donated to the CTV Montreal Spirit of Giving Campaign helps each of our participating charities meet the needs of families in our community," said Louis Douville, Vice-President & General Manager of CTV Montreal. "The overwhelming generosity of our viewers paired with the dedication of our partners like the YMCA's of Quebec and the English Montreal School Board, helps support thousand of families less fortunate during this holiday season."
