|CHAMBER MUSIC WITHOUT BORDERS VISITS ROYAL VALE|
MONTREAL, FEBRUARY 4, 2014 – Elementary students at Royal Vale School in N.D.G. received a special visit recently from Chamber Music Without Borders, an outreach program based at McGill University that offers free musical encounters to community institutions in the Montreal area.
The group made its third annual trip to Royal Vale, with this visit dedicated to highlighting the clarinet. Over the course of the hour-long assembly, the students were treated to an educational show that outlined the basics of the instrument, which was followed by the playing of both original and well-known musical compositions.
In recognition of their visit, following their presentation, the group was able to put aside their clarinets for a few moments as Devon Packer, a Grade 3 student, took the stage and treated them to a special rendition on the piano.
The public is welcome to see Chamber Music Without Borders live on a weekly basis, Sunday at 1 p.m., at Christ Church Cathedral (635 St. Catherine St. West). Students present a one-hour performance with a repertoire that ranges from Classical string quartets to new jazz arrangements. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted and all proceeds go to the Church and CMWB.
