MONTREAL, February 5, 2014 – Excitement is building within the English Montreal School Board on the eve of the fourth annual  Hooked on School Week. This very special event, which is taking place from February 10 to 14 , features all regions of Quebec coming together to showcase the sheer importance of school perseverance.

With the main theme consisting of supporting youth in their efforts to succeed, the EMSB will  welcome Taylor Mathews, a young man who became famous for his own success story, on Monday, February 10 (11:30 a.m.) at Rosemount High School (3737 Beaubien Rue E.). Originally discovered on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, he wowed the judges and fans across America to become a top finalist, most notably for his fresh, guitar-driven rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

America's Got Talent is a reality television series that is set up in a talent show fashion. It features singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and other performers of all ages. Having completed a two and a half month US and Canadian tour as direct support for Disney’s R5 band, the 22-year-old  Mathews is continuing his rise as an accomplished singer, songwriter, and touring musician.

“We will be using every opportunity possible to encourage our students to stay in school and graduate,” said Rosemount High School Principal Demetra Droutsas. “I am extremely excited for the talented Taylor Mathews to perform for our students. Our stage band will also perform during the presentation and show their connection to school through music. In between performances, testimonials will be given to the students stressing the importance of staying in school.”

Rosemount High School’s own stage band will also perform. For more information on the ESMB’s ‘Hooked on School’ week, please visit: or
