|LIBRARY IN THE CLOUDS: EMSB DEBUTS VIRTUAL LIBRARY|
MONTREAL, FEBRUARY 24, 2014 – As the EMSB continues to be on the cutting edge of technology, the Pedagogical Services team has brought the traditional library online, with the launch of the EMSB Virtual Library.
Located at: www.emsb.qc.ca/virtuallibrary, the Virtual Library is a unique collection of high-quality online resources, in French and English, specifically chosen to compliment and support the Quebec Education Program. The majority of said resources will be available to students and staff from home or at school, both during the school year and in the summer.
Resource coverage includes language arts, science, math, history, geography, politics, local news, national events, careers, and technology, amongst many other subject areas. Access to these resources is password-free from school computers. At home, students and staff can access resources via a universal username and password provided by school library personnel. This universal username and password is also available on the Portal.
Resources which will be available in the Virtual Library are:
Britannica School Edition: A digital encyclopedia with multi-media content for elementary, middle and high school. English.
Universalis (Secondary) & Universalis Junior (Elementary): Digital encyclopaediae with multi-media content. French.
Learn 360: 36,000+ video clips that widely support QEP. All levels. (A&E, National Geographic and more.) English.
EBSCO Education Research Complete: A professional database for educators with access to 1400+ journals. Includes ERIC. French and English.
ONF / NFB Campus: 2800+ Canadian films. Searchable by subject and grade. Teachers can create playlists , capture excerpts and download content. All levels. English and French.
Edumedia (Secondary) & Edumedia Junior (Elementary): 800+ simulations and videos on the maths & sciences. Multi-lingual.
SCOOP: News aggregator with lesson plans for discussing current events. Teachers and students in Cycle 3+. French.
La Presse: Full, electronic version of the daily newspaper. Monday to Saturday Edition. French.
The Gazette: Full, electronic version of the daily newspaper. English. (Available September 2014).
