|LESTER B. PEARSON TO DEBUT GAY-STRAIGHT ALLIANCE|
MONTREAL, MARCH 21, 2014 – In the spirit of fostering a safer school environment, Lester B. Pearson High School in Montreal North (11575 P.M. Favier) will officially inaugurate the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA), an inclusive group that welcomes students from all backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities on March 26 at 4:15 p.m.
The GSA will provide a platform for students to have a voice and it will empower them to effect change. Furthermore, the GSA will also promote diversity and awareness through education, support, social justice, and advocacy.
As the first of its kind at the English Montreal School Board, the ultimate goal of the GSA is to cultivate awareness and acceptance within the school community and provide a space for students to feel valued, recognized, and accepted.
The project was initiated and developed by the Lester B. Pearson High School guidance counselor along with the assistance of the GSA committee: a group of 25 committed, passionate, and brave students who believe in equality and who want to be part of a movement.
