|GARDENVIEW TOPS IN MATH AND WRITING|
MONTREAL, APRIL 11, 2014 – Demonstrating their prowess in math and writing, students from Gardenview Elementary School in St. Laurent garnered top honors in both the prestigious CNML mathematics competition and the QFHSA 2014 Family Treasures Writing Contest.
Gardenview students in the Enriched Math Program with teacher Rose Landau, an endeavor sponsored by the Gardenview Home and School Association, participated in the CNML competition with 250 schools across the country took home first place in Quebec and fourth place in Canada.
Six Gardenview students also ranked in the top 10 Quebec: Anthony Mirarchi, Melissa Yu, Alois Orozco, Victoria Anson, David Lanyi, and Kaitlin May Wong. Anthony Mirarchi also placed in the top 30 in Canada.
Not to be outdone by their peers, students of room 21 entered the QFHSA 2014 Family Treasures Writing Contest and excelled above all other participants in Quebec.
The first prize was awarded to Michael Guluzian for his essay “The Promise” and the second prize was awarded to Stephen Mikus for his essay “The Piano”. Honourable mentions were awarded to to Ruth Sivagnanam for her essay “The Bracelets” and to Rianna Angelopoulos for her poem “The Treasure Box”.
The competition was spearheaded by teacher Nina Wong who gave her students the unique opportunity to share their talents as young writers.
