|EMSB DISTRIBUTES GREEN AWARDS, RECOGNITION PRIZES AND GRANTS FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR|
The EMSB Green Plan Committee, chaired by Commissioner Ginette Sauvé Frankel, received and reviewed many submissions which reflected the Green Action Plan of various schools. The aim here is to help schools, centres, and the Administration Building implement and fund future environmental initiatives ensuing from their action plans.
Green Awards of $1,000 were presented to Edward Murphy Elementary School in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve for Edward Murphy Schoolyard and Garden Composting Project (Pillar 1); John Caboto Academy in Ahuntsic for John Caboto Academy School-wide Composting Initiative (Pillar 3); and Marymount Academy International in NDG for Interfaith Eco-Action (Pillar 2). As well, Parkdale Elementary School in St. Laurent’s Growing up Green at Parkdale (Pillar 2) and Perspectives Alternative High School in St. Michel, Container Garden (Pillar 2), were the recipients of Green Recognition prizes of $500.
A Willow grant of $1,000 went to Gerald McShane Elementary School in St. Michel for Gerald McShane Community Teaching Garden.
Maple Grants of between $1,001 and $2,999 went to Bancroft Elementary School in the Plateau’s Educational Terrarium, $1,850; General Vanier Elementary School in St. Léonard, General Vanier School Garden & Outdoor Learning Classroo, $2,750; Hampstead Elementary School for Hampstead School Garden, $2,000; Honoré Mercier Elementary School in St. Léonard, The Friendship Corner, $2,250; Our Lady of Pompei Elementary School in Ahuntsic for Schoolyard Garden and Outdoor Classroom Project, $1,500; Royal West Academy in Montreal West, Completing the Cycle, $1,600; and St. Gabriel Elementary School in Pointe St. Charles, Senior Par, $1,500.
Oak Grants of between $3,000 and $5,000 went to: Parkdale Elementary School in St. Laurent, Learning in the Sun! Our Space – Our Time, $3,250; Perspectives II Alternative High School in St. Michel, -ooking with Perspective, $4,000; and Royal Vale School in NDG, RVC Grows, $4,250.
Michael J. Cohen
