|EMSB STUDENTS CREATE ARTWORK IN HONOR OF MONTREAL NORTH CENTENNIAL|
MONTREAL, FEBRURAY 3, 2015 – As the borough of Montreal North celebrates its centennial throughout 2015, students from Gerald McShane and Our Lady of Pompei Elementary Schools and Lester B. Pearson High School have jointly created a piece of artwork which is set to be unveiled at the Montreal North Maison Culturelle (12004 boulevard Rolland) on Thursday, February ( 1 p.m.).
More than 750 students participated in the exhibit that is set to highlight the diverse cultures that call Montreal North home. Students worked on the project along with Montreal North artists Sergio Guiterrez and Amarande Rivere.
Set to also be unveiled on Thursday is a bilingual and original song and video created by students from Gerald McShane Elementary School under the guidance of local artist David Hodges. Originally conceived by Principal Nancy Richer, Thursday will mark the unveiling of a project nearly three years in the making.
“We are all connected by our diversities and the concept was for to the students to explore the theme. From Pre-Kindergarten to high school, the final artwork truly shows what diversity means to all of us,” said Ms. Richer. “When different cultures come together within a community, there can be tension, but with tension there is also growth. We wanted to find a way to symbolize the acceptance of all the diversities and I’m very proud of what our students were able to accomplish.”
