|EDWARD MURPHY SCHOOL BAKING FOR CHANGE|
MONTREAL, FEBRURAY 5, 2015 – For those with a sweet tooth at Edward Murphy Elementary School (6800 Pierre de Coubertin) in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Tuesday, February 10 cannot come soon enough. That morning, the school will be hosting a bake sale in partnership with Free the Children.
The Edward Murphy School community has worked with Free the Children for the last five years, dedicating themselves to raising funds in unique and fun ways. As a part of Free the Children’s “We Act” program, the We Bake for Change fundraiser directly supports families in developing countries.
In addition to tasty homemade goodies from Edward Murphy families, the school’s cooking club has taken note of the date and will be busy in the kitchen leading up to the fundraiser. The baked goods, all peanut-free, will be priced between 50 cents and two dollars and be sold until noon.
“The project aims to spread the messages of citizenship, hope, community spirit, and empathy to all the those involved,” said Franca Cristiano, Principal of Edward Murphy School. “Our students gain respect for others, themselves and continue to grow in community spirit making them better local and global citizens. Working with Free the Children and organizations like them help them learn that simple acts of kindness bring joy to the giver and receiver.”
