|EMSB MOURNS THE LOSS OF JAMES LYNG ALUMNUS SAMANTHA HIGGINS|
MMONTREAL, JULY 15, 2015 – The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) mourns the tragic death of Samantha Higgins, an alumnus of James Lyng High School in St. Henri.
Samantha was reported missing last Tuesday and her body was discovered the following evening in Hinchinbrooke, Quebec.
“On behalf of the entire EMSB community, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Samantha’s family. This is a tragedy that no family should ever have to endure,” said EMSB Chairman, Angela Mancini.
“I will be keeping Samantha’s two young children as well as her mother Vanessa, step-father Daniel and siblings in my prayers,” added EMSB Director General, Ann Marie Matheson. “I am thankful that so many people from the community are providing support to the family in their time of need.”
Steven Manstavich, former Vice Principal at James Lyng High School remembered Samantha quite fondly. “I was very saddened to hear about Samantha, I worked with her my first year as Vice Principal at James Lyng. She was kind and tried very hard to achieve success for herself,” he recalled. “She would even visit from time to time over the years, bringing along her children. I wish her family nothing but my deepest sympathies.”
The family also has a strong connection to St. Gabriel Elementary School.
“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the whole family,” added Jim Daskalakis, Principal of St. Gabriel Elementary School. “A number of Samantha’s relatives have been and continue to be special members of the St. Gabriel community and our doors will always be open to provide them with any support we can.”
An open visitation for Samantha will be held on Saturday, July 18 from 10 am to 4 pm at Feron’s funeral home (2630 Notre Dame).
