NEW CANADIAN CITIZENS SWORN IN AT EAST HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

MONTREAL, OCTOBER 18, 2002– Thirteen new Canadian citizens were sworn in at a special ceremony at East Hill Elementary School in Rivière-des-Prairies on October 18. CFCF Television weather forecaster Frank Cavallaro served as emcee.

The new citizens came from Algeria, Argentina, Chili, France, Haiti, Morrocco, Pakistan, the Republic of Mali and Romania. Grade 6 students Cara Carosielli and Nicholas David Di Paolo read aloud their entries from a Canada-wide writing contest.

Judge Remi Tougas presided over the ceremony, which was held during Canadian Citizenship Week and under the theme Canada, We All Belong.

"This is a time to reflect on what it means to be Canadian and to celebrate the values that draw us together," says East Hill Principal Maria Cesta.
