|EMSB HOSTED PROCEDE ADULT EDUCATION CONFERENCE A BIG SUCCESS|
MONTREAL, NOVEMBER 10, 2003- Canadian Space Agency President Marc Garneau and well known political commentator John Parisella were among the keynote speakers Nov. 5 to 7 when the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) Adult Education and Vocational Services Committee hosted the 2003 PROCEDE Conference at the Fairmont Tremblant Hotel. "Education – The Power to Succeed" was the theme for the three-day event, which attracted close to 200 delegates.
PROCEDE, which stands for Provincial Organization of Continuing Education Directors English, is an organization made up of the directors and coordinators of the English school boards in Quebec. Centre administrators, professionals of the adult and vocational education departments and the directors and coordinators of Adult Education and Vocational Services departments will be among the delegates.
Mr. Garneau, a former astronaut, delivered the conference’s keynote address about the many projects the Space Agency has been involved in and his personal experiences in space. Mr. Parisella, president of the advertising and communications firm BCP and a former chief of staff to then Quebec Premier Robert Bourassa, spoke about the importance of Education and the role of educators to empower students to achieve their career goals. Marianne Simeone, who hosts the trilingual current affairs show "7 Giorni" on CH Montreal, talked about how the "Power of Education" has helped her to succeed in her broadcasting career.
The conference itself included 18 workshops and presentations dealing with various matters affecting adult and vocational education in Quebec’s English-language communities. They were facilitated by a select group of educational, legal and government consultants, experts and professionals.
