|CANADIAN IDOL STAR GARY BEALS TO VISIT WITH STUDENTS OF F.A.C.E. SCHOOL|
MONTREAL, JANUARY 21, 2004— Canadian Idol star Gary Beals will visit with the students of F.A.C.E. (Fine Arts Core Education) High School (3449 University Street) on Friday, January 23 at 10:15 a.m., quite appropriately in the Singing Room Number 201.
F.A.C.E., which is jointly administered by the English Montreal School Board and the Commission Scolaire de Montréal, fosters student learning through the creative arts. Each student is involved in a wide range of artistic activities, in which they learn from thinking, feeling, seeing and creating. Advanced drama, visual arts, and instrumental and vocal music programs are part of the curriculum.
Beals, a 20 year old native of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, was the runnerup to Ryan Malcolm on last summer’s smash hit Canadian Idol. The final program on the CTV Network attracted a viewing audience of 6.5 million people. Beals has taken some time off from Acadia University in Nova Scotia, where he studying theatre, to concentrate on his professional singing career. He is in town to perform at a fundraising concert for Centraide Saturday night at Concordia’s Oscar Peterson Concert Hall in N.D.G. Audrey de Montigny, the top Quebec finisher in Canadian Idol, is also slated to sing at Concordia.
Beals has been singing since the age of 12 in church, as well as at weddings, funerals and concerts. Describing his musical style as "gospel and R&B," he enjoys artists such as Justin Timberlake, Whitney Houston and Lauryn Hill. R. Kelly’s I Believe I Can Fly is his favorite song to sing.
F.A.C.E. is located on University just North of Sherbrooke St. West, directly across from McGill University. It is easily accessible by buses #15, #24, #61, #168, McGill Metro, and Central or Windsor train stations.
