|BASKETBALL TOUR TAKES OFF|
MONTREAL, JANUARY 26, 2005– Once again this winter, Als fans will not only be able see their favourite football players on the ice, but on the court as well as the team kicks off its second annual charity basketball tour next Monday.
Led by defensive back Barron Miles, Alouettes’ players including Anthony Calvillo, Uzooma Okeke, Bruno Heppell, Rob Brown, Paul Lambert, Luke Fritz, Anwar Stewart, Kevin Johnson, Marc Megna and a few others will face local primary school representatives throughout Quebec.
"The objective of this tour is to spend time with kids and mainly to listen to them," said Barron Miles, who initiated the project. "We want to re-create the excitement of a game day atmosphere at each school and the presence of the players will be a key factor in achieving that goal."
The basketball tour is an extension of the Adopt-an-Alouette program, which is present in over 150 Quebec high schools. "This project is a great initiative by Barron as it allows us to reach out to high school and grade school kids," said Alouettes President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Larry Smith. "Our objective is to encourage education and to counter high school drop-outs."
