|EMSB COMMEMORATES PASSING OF THE POPE|
MONTREAL, APRIL 4, 2005– Students at the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) will pay tribute to the late Pope John Paul II at different ceremonies and assemblies this week.
Media were invited today to Vincent Massey Collegiate in Rosemount where a Secondary I enriched English class gathered in the school’s Spiritual Community Room to reflect on the Pope. This is Social Justice Week at Vincent Massey. In keeping with the theme, students focused on the Pope’s legacy as a humanitarian.
"We show respect for the Pope’s death because of his profound influence on many world issues such as social justice, respect for life, freedom and peace," said EMSB Chairman Dominic Spiridigliozzi. "His energy and passion for values are renowned by many in the world. For those in the Roman Catholic Tradition this is a profound moment in history which will be respected not only by Roman Catholics, but throughout the world as a global event."
On Friday, April 8 (11:30 a.m.), Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew will talk about the Pope when he visits John F. Kennedy High School in St. Michel.
