|EMSB MOURNS PASSING OF FORMER ADULT CENTRE DIRECTOR EDWARD COLLINSON|
MONTREAL, AUGUST 16, 2006- The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) is mourning the sudden passing Tuesday of Edward "Ted" Collinson, who just retired in June following a 37 career in the public education system.
For the past eight years, Mr. Collinson was the director of the High School of Montreal Adult Centre. Prior to that he was the assistant director of Woodland Adult Centre, a principal on special assignment for the former Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal, the principal of a number of French sector schools (Ogilvie, Tetreaultville, Ahuntsic) and vice-principal of the Youth Horizons (social affairs) program. From 1968 to 1979 he taught physical education in Sept-Iles and at Maisonneuve and Ogilvie School.
Mr. Collinson, who would have turned 58 in October, had a passion for basketball and football, coaching teams at various levels in both sports. Over the years he worked on the football coaching staff of both the Concordia Stingers and the Vanier College Cheetahs. His son Brad Collinson played for the Montreal Alouettes.
"Ted was a great guy and I'm sure he left a lasting impression on all those that he met," said EMSB Assistant Director of Adult Education and Vocational Services Cosmo Della Rocca. "He built up the High School Montreal for us three times during his time there on the job: when they originally were forced to relocate from their University Street locale in 1999 to the Plateau, when a court judgment forced them to move to East End St. Michel and when they returned to the Plateau last winter. All of us at head office were so impressed with how Ted always managed to keep enrolment at a strong level, despite these challenges."
Mr. Collinson is survived by his mother Nellie Collinson, wife Audrey Smith, a daughter, two sons, a son-in-law and one grandchild. Visitation will take place at White & Sons Funeral Home (Rajotte Chapel) 3635 Hochelaga Street (corner of Chambly next to Joliette metro) on Thursday, August 17, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.. The Funeral and Burial Services will be at St. Georges United Church, 3030 Baldwin, on Friday, August 18, 2006 at 2 p.m.
