“SINGERS FOR A CAUSE” GROUP FOR MARIANOPOLIS TO PERFORM AT THE MACKAY CENTRE SCHOOL IN NDG

MONTREAL, APRIL 4, 2016 – The Mackay Centre School (3500 Decarie) in NDG will receive a visit from “Singers for a Cause,” a group of students at nearby Marianopolis College in Westmount, on Thursday, April 7 (1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.).

“Singers for a Cause” was created a year ago by second year Health Sciences student Alexandra Cohen. “I created this club because I wanted to find a way to combine my passions for both singing and community service,” she said. “I believe that music has an amazing power to uplift both singers and audience members.”

Meeting weekly, group members put together concerts for various charitable purposes. Past performances have taken place at hospitals, geriatric facilities, community centers and at school events and fundraisers. The upcoming concert at the Mackay Centre School will engage the young students with some audience participation, as the group sings current pop and Disney tunes, including songs from everyone’s recent favourite Disney film: Frozen!

The Mackay Centre School educates children with physical disabilities, the deaf and students with communication disorders.  Sharing the premises with them is the Philip.E. Layton School, which services the blind and/or physically handicapped and /or intellectually handicapped. There are also a number of students each year who take part in the reverse integration program. These students from mainstream schools apply for a one year opportunity to learn alongside others with special needs.

“Our students love music,” says Principal Patrizia Ciccarelli. “We so much appreciate Singers for a Cause thinking about us this way.”
