MOHAWK EDUCATION CHIEF TOP LEAF VISITS GERALD MCSHANE

MONTREAL, APRIL 8, 2016 – Mohawk Education Chief Top Leaf spent time with students at Gerald McShane Elementary School in Montreal North, complementing the lessons of Spiritual and Community Animator Rocco Seperanza.

Chief Top Leaf spoke to students with on native traditions and customs as well as the native’s relationship with wildlife. His visit corresponded with with the National Wildlife Week and Earth Week programming.

Students learned that our environment is fragile and we need to take care of it. Chief Top Leaf added that it is important not to build parking lots or malls where animal life is present as we share the planet with all living things.

The EMSB will celebrate Earth Day on April 22, but programming throughout the year focuses on taking care of our environment, habitats and planet daily by conserving water, reducing our waste and taking care of food sustainability concerns.
