|EMSB STUDENTS TO MEET THE EARL OF WESSEX|
MONTREAL, OCTOBER 9, 2007- Students and staff from the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) will have an opportunity to meet the Earl of Wessex (Prince Edward), the third son and youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip ( the Duke of Edinburgh) on Wednesday, October 10 (9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.) at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel.
Among the 10 schools to be represented at this event for the charitable organization Free the Children, three are from the EMSB: FACE downtown, Laurier Macdonald High School in St. Léonard and Westmount High School. The Earl of Wessex has chosen Free the Children among the 2007 Canadian charitable organizations he supports. The Earl of Wessex is expected to spend about an hour at the hotel to publicly support Free the Children and meet with the staff of National Bank Financial. Students involved in Free the Children will set up ten "show and and tell" stations featuring projects advancing the cause of Free the Children and exposing notable deeds of youth. Other VIPs will be in attendance.
There will be five representatives from each school (one teacher and four students). Each school will identify one teacher or the principal to accompany the students to the event. Four youth per school have been identified as speakers. Some parents have also been invited. There will be a question and answer period between the Earl and two youth members. The youth will also engage in an interactive period with Royals to ask them questions that their school has individually brainstormed. Craig Kielburger, the founder of Free The Children, will invite one student from each school to thank the Earl on behalf of their school. This will result in a total of ten small presentations.
