|OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALLIST JENNIFER HEIL AND OTHER ATHLETES TO LAUNCH HEART WEEK FEBRUARY 11-15, 2008|
MONTREAL, JANUARY 29 2008 – Canadian Olympic Freestyle Mogul Champion, Jennifer Heil is teaming up with Mauro Biello of the Montreal Impact, Paul Lambert of the Montreal Alouettes and Farrel Miller and Martin Routhier -the two men bringing Quebec Major Junior Hockey back to Montreal - to launch Heart Week in support of The Heart of Life Fund and The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. A member of the Montreal Canadiens will be confirmed soon.
Heart Week’s official launch will take place on Wednesday, February 6 (1 p.m.) at John Paul I High School in St. Léonard (8455 Pré-Laurin). During Heart Week each student with a healthy heart is asked to bring a small donation to help a child with a “broken heart” while wearing a red garment to show their friendship towards children with more fragile hearts.
This number is part of a Benefit Show sponsored by The Heart of Life and created by Connie Rotella that will take place on Sunday, February 10th and Sunday, February 24th at Centre Leonardo da Vinci in St. Leonard.
One in 100 children is born with a heart defect and this rate is 10 times higher than for any other childhood illness. The Heart of Life Fund was created in 1997 by parents of children who have undergone complex open heart surgery. Their goal is to increase awareness of heart disease, educate young people on healthy lifestyles and raise funds for the Cardiology Department at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Funds collected during Heart Week help to purchase state-of-the-art equipment and contribute to a brighter, healthier future for the many children suffering from cardiac illnesses. The 2007 school campaign raised over $40,000 for that purpose.
