Repercussion Theatre

MONTREAL, FEBRUARY  22, 2010   The English Montreal School Board will host the 11th annual Regional Skills Olympic Gala for Vocational Training at St. Pius X Culinary Institute (9955 Papineau) on Wed. March 10, with the medal ceremony commencing at 7 p.m.
In addition to the EMSB, vocational training centres competing come from the Lester B. Pearson School Board, the Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys, the Commission scolaire de Montréal,  the Commission scolaire de la Pointe-de-l’Île and the ITHQ - Institut de tourisme et d'hôtellerie du Québec.  EMSB centres taking part are:

  • John F. Kennedy Business Centre in St. Michel is hosting and competing in the professional sales event.
  • Rosemount Technology Centre is competing in: desktop publishing, machining techniques, industrial drafting, cabinetmaking, and hosting CNC - Numerical Control Machine Tool Operation.
  • Laurier Macdonald Vocational Centre in St. Léonard is competing in: hairdressing, automobile mechanics, and hosting aesthetics.
  • St. Pius X Culinary Institute is competing in professional cooking and table service and hosting the gala.

According to EMSB Educational Consultant Mario Marrazza, a member of the Montreal Island Skills Competitions Regional Committee and EMSB’s coordinator of the Olympic activities, candidates must first win a place at their centre level in order to compete at the Regional Competitions.  The Olympiad Gala  of March 10, 2010 in the St. Pius X Auditorium will showcase all  of the participants and award Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals to the winners.  The gold medal winner(s) will represent the island of Montreal at the Provincial Skills Competition in Quebec City in May.  The winner(s) from there will go on to represent the province at the Canadian Skills Competition in Kitchener, Ontario.   In addition, a selection team of winner(s) from here will represent Canada at the 41st World Skills Competitions in London, England in 2011.
