St. John Bosco raises $738 for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada
PRINICIPAL TONY  PITA  SHAVES HIS HEAD  FOR A GOOD CAUSE

MONTREAL, April 20, 2010 – Coming through on a promise to one special faculty member, St. John Bosco Elementary School Principal Tony Pita recently shaved his head after students raised $738 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.

St. John Bosco’s very own “Shave to Save” was inspired by the story of Catherine Laberge, who currently teaches at the Ville Émard  elementary school. Laberge was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor at the age of 22 and five years later, has recovered to become a healthy and member of the St. John Bosco family. The fundraiser was a part of a bigger goal for Laberge as she plans to raise at least $7,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada and subsequently walk a marathon this June in Alaska.

“The physical challenge in Alaska will be a way for me to show my encouragement to those who have to show courage and determination every day,” she said.  “ They are the true heroes. With this marathon, I hope to help the research for an eventual cure and I hope to show all the leukemia and blood cancer patients that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”
