MONTREAL, August 9, 2010 Over 200 volunteers lifted their sleeves on Saturday at St. Dorothy Elementary school in St. Michel to construct the newest addition to the English Montreal School Board (EMSB), a playground donated by Foresters Life Insurance and KaBOOM!

The 2,632 square-foot playground, which is one of only 20 KaBOOM! playgrounds to be built across North America in 2010, was constructed over an eight hour period as scores of volunteers from Foresters Life Insurance, the EMSB and the local community came together to make a lasting impact on their neighbourhood.

Despite a strong desire to break in their new toy, St. Dorothy students along with local children also lent a helping hand whenever possible, as well as spent the day participating in various activities and games.

The KaBOOM! playground at St. Dorothy Elementary school is the second of its kind in the EMSB, the other being located at Edinburgh School in Cote Saint Luc.
“I’m speechless at what I saw today. I never thought it would be built in one day,” said Rosetta Perri, principal of St. Dorothy Elementary School. “[This proves that] volunteers have the power to transform individuals and communities. This will be an ideal place for our children to play in harmony and will make [such] a difference for the entire community.”

KaBOOM!, which is based in Washington D.C., was established in 1996 as a national non-profit organization dedicated to saving play. Through community building, the company is focused on giving every child in North America a great place to play within walking distance.
