EMSB TO OFFER SUPPORT TO MARYMOUNT STUDENTS AND STAFF FOLLOWING TRAGIC DEATH OF SHIREL ATTAR

MONTREAL, AUGUST 11, 2010  The English Montreal School Board has expressed its deepest condolences to the family of Shirel Attar, a student at Marymount Academy in N.D.G. who was tragically murdered on Monday evening.

Our hearts go out to Shirel’s family, friends and those who knew her at Marymount,” stated EMSB Chairman Angela Mancini. “This is an unspeakable tragedy.”

Officials from the EMSB Student Services Department will be meeting next Monday with the principal and vice-principal of Marymount to develop a plan of action to be  immediately available to any students in need of support at this time. Ms. Mancini notes that the EMSB’s Trauma Team has vast experience in this area. “I am certain that some classmates or even teachers of Shirel’s are  feeling shock and sadness right now,” she said. “We have professionals available to assist them.”
