EMSB TO HOST SUBURBAN EDUCATION AND ACTIVITY FAIR
SEPTEMBER 15 AT LAURENHILL JUNIOR CAMPUS
AUGUST 16, 2010- The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) will be hosting the first annual Suburban Newspaper Education and Activity Fair on Wednesday, September 15 (4 p.m. to 9 p.m.) at LaurenHill Academy Junior Campus (2355 Decelles) in Saint-Laurent.
This event will be promoting educational opportunities within the Montreal area. Many public boards, private schools, educational institutions and companies from across the island of Montreal involved with education will be participating.
The EMSB will have a prominent presence, with 10 kiosks devoted to its French-language programs, special needs services, and elementary and high school network and adult and vocational education centres. Staff from many schools and centres will be present and hundreds of unique giveaway items will be handed out.
EMSB Autism Spectrum Disorder Consultant Tania Piperni, Behavior Management Specialist Lori Rubin, Guidance Counsellor Susan Freed and Information Communications Technology Consultant Maureen Baron will be part of a special speaker-series event taking place during the Education Fair. Their presentations will be on topics related to their individual expertise: cyber-bullying, (Maureen Baron); behaviour management, (Lori Rubin); autism spectrum disorder, (Tania Piperni); and choosing a high-school or CEGEP (Susan Freed).
The public is also invited to visit the EMSB’s special “Speak with a Professional” kiosk to speak one-on-one with a member the team of psychologists and special-education consultants, along with the four guest speakers. These individuals will be available to answer questions about topics such as speech language therapy, special education options and learning disabilities.

EMSB Chairman Angela Mancini has expressed her gratitude to LaurenHill Academy Principal Claude Dansereau and his staff and event coordinators David Solomon from The Suburban and Andrea Di Tomaso from the EMSB Communications and Marketing Division.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to learn about the various options for their students under one roof,” said Ms. Mancini. “Whether your child is still a few years away from either elementary or high school, or if you have been trying to contact pedagogical or special needs consultant this represents the type of one-stop shopping for schooling that does not normally exist.”
