MONTREAL, AUGUST 17, 2010 – The English Montreal School Board has expressed its deepest condolences to the family of Shirel Attar, a student at Marymount Academy in N.D.G. who was tragically murdered on Monday evening.
“Our hearts go out to Shirel’s family, friends and those who knew her at Marymount,” stated EMSB Chairman Angela Mancini. “This is an unspeakable tragedy.”
Marymount Principal Craig Olenik has announced that members of the EMSB Student Services Department Trauma Team will be at the school (5100 Côte Saint-Luc Road) between 9 a.m. and noon on Friday, August 20 for any students in need of support at this time. Ms. Mancini notes that the EMSB’s Trauma Team has vast experience in this area. “I am certain that some classmates or even teachers of Shirel’s are feeling shock and sadness right now,” she said. “We have professionals available to assist them.”
