MONTREAL,  OCTOBER  14,  2010 The Montreal Juniors of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League launched a series of visits tied to their Score With School Program at Westmount High School on   October 13.

Forward Louis Leblanc, the 2009 first round draft choice of the Montreal Canadiens, was joined by a number of his teammates including team captain  Nicolas Chouinard, forwards Trevor Parkes (property of the NHL Detroit Red Wings),  Denis Kindl , defencemen Francis Meilleur and  Alex Micallef  and team owner Farrel Miller. The players  participate in a floor hockey scrimmage, coordinated by physical education teacher Jeff  Kosso. Staff from Westmount High, including Vice Principal Steven Erdelyi, teamed up with the Juniors to take on a squad of students.   The Juniors won 6-1, but Mr. Kosso decided to call back five goals and an entertaining shootout then ensued.
More than 600 students packed the gymnasium. Following the game, the players stayed around to sign autographs. Naturally, the lineup to meet future Hab Leblanc was long.
The English Montreal School Board is officially part of the Score With School program.  In addition to Westmount High, eight EMSB  elementary schools (St. Gabriel in Pointe St. Charles, Royal Vale, Willlingdon and St. Monica in N.D.G., Roslyn in Westmount,  Bancroft in the Plateau, John Caboto in Ahuntsic and Hampstead), two other  high schools (  John F. Kennedy in St. Michel and James Lyng in St. Henri), the Outreach/Alternative high school network (a grouping of nine separate schools) and one adult centre  (James Lyng) are involved.   Thanks to the generosity of corporate sponsors, 15 sets of season ticket packages (four seats per game) have been given to each of these schools.

On November 11, the Juniors will play a regular season game during school hours, with  a 10:35 a.m.  face off time and a special Remembrance Day ceremony. Sports-Études students from the EMSB’s Lester B. Pearson High School will be among those in attendance. Wednesday, February 9 will be EMSB Night at the Verdun Auditorium.

The Juniors note that they are proud of the fact that off the ice they place a lot of importance on education. Each player is enrolled in school and is required to study as a pre-requisite to playing with the club.   Their corporate sponsorship program is aimed at encouraging young people to stay in school. With the help of corporate support, organizations such as schools receive these tickets as a mean of encouraging and keeping kids to stay interested in school, through extracurricular activities.
