MONTREAL, DECEMBER 14,  2010-   The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) community is shocked and horrified  by the tragic murder in Texas of a former Gardenview Elementary School student, Deyan Perisic and the shooting of his sister, Danyela. Their father has been arrested.

“On behalf of the entire school board I wish to express our deepest sympathies to the family,” said EMSB Chairman Angela Mancini. “We wish Danyela well. Our prayers are with her.”

Deyan  and Danyela were in Grades 4 and 6  respectively last year in Gardenview,  the EMSB’s largest elementary school.
“We are all in shock at Gardenview,” stated Gardenview Principal  Tina Lavranos. “Both children were with us since kindergarten. They were lovely in every aspect—model students with many friends.   I met with my staff after school and we are all in mourning.”

Ms.  Mancini said that the EMSB Trauma Team from  the   Student Services  Department will be on site at Gardenview on Wednesday  to deal with the students and teachers and likely at the LaurenHill Academy Junior Campus as well, where many of Danyela’s former classmates now attend.  “We are asking everyone to give the school the privacy it needs at this difficult time,” she remarked.

The children  moved to Houston more than a year ago. They returned to  Gardenview in January 2010,   but moved back to Texas last spring as part of a custody decision.
