MONTREAL, APRIL 6, 2011 – The English Montreal School Board’s most dynamic public speakers will once again take to the podium at the 2011 EMSB Public Speaking Competition to be held at Westmount High School (4350 St. Catherine St. West) on Thursday, April 7 and Friday, April 8.
While students have long been able to deliver their award winning speeches in English, new to the 2011 competition is “Volet Français”: the opportunity for Cycle I students to address the audience and judges in French.
The bilingual competition for Cycle 1 students will be held on April 7, from 9 a.m. to Noon and Cycle II students will compete on April 8 from 9 a.m. to Noon. As with previous competitions, Cycle I students will present personal narrative speeches and Cycle II students will deliver persuasive speeches.
As in past years, Cycle I winners may have the opportunity to present their winning speeches to the Council of Commissioners and Cycle II students will have an opportunity to participate in the Rotary Club Public Speaking Finals in May 2011 and the Women’s Canadian Club will award the Secondary IV winner with an all expenses paid week to Encounters with Canada in Ottawa.
