MONTREAL, JUNE 15, 2011 –The recent Spring Show of the Marymount Adult Education Centre (5785 Parkhaven Avenue) in Côte Saint-Luc was such a success that there will be an encore presentation on Tuesday, June 28 (8 p.m.), with all of the proceeds going to the Montreal Children’s Hospital. CN Rail has come forward and will match what is raised so the Ste Justine Hospital will now also benefit. Tickets are $10 and can be reserved through Marymount at 514-488-8203 or Lina 514-715-7113.
Marymount Adult Education Centre offers the Common Core Basic English Education Program (CCBE) where students acquire language skills at the literacy and pre-secondary level. Lina Maiorano, director/producer as well as dance instructor/choreographer of the school’s drama program notes that this production is an excellent venue for the literacy students from over 40 countries to practice their English. The volunteer photographer, videographer and sound crew all derive from the talent pool of these remarkable newcomers to Canada.
The school is also home to classes for adult students with special needs, who are very involved in the production. With the support of teacher, Gail Bernstein and facilitators Melody Ballesteros and Milena Tognarini, they have created the mural depicting the theme of the show, Appreciation, assisted in the making of the costumes and stage sets, but are particularly excited to have acting roles. This program has given them all a stage to boost their self esteem.
