PRESS CONFERENCE TO UNVEIL McGILL HOCKEY STAY IN SCHOOL PROGRAM AND SPECIAL GAME

MONTREAL, SEPTEMBER  28,  2011 – A press conference will be held on Wednesday, September 28 (1:30 p.m.) at the LaurenHill Academy Junior Campus (2355 Decelles) in St. Laurent to announce the participation of the English Montreal and Lester B. Pearson School Boards at an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) regular season game between the McGill Redmen and Royal Military College. That contest will take place on Friday, December 2 (10:30 a.m.) at the Verdun Auditorium and be part of unique school field trip coordinated by Rooths Sports Events.
 
Lucie Darche, the mother of former McGill Redmen star forward and present day Montreal Canadiens player Mathieu Darche, will be on hand for the press conference. Representing McGill will be Redmen head coach Kelly Nobes and three  members of his 2011-2012 roster – team captain Evan Vossen,  assistant captains Marc-André Dorion and Maxime Langelier-Parent  - and assistant  coaches Daniel Jacob and Stéphane Fortin. The latter is  the phys ed teacher at the EMSB’s Elizabeth Ballantyne School in Montreal West. Two members of the McGill Martlets Women’s Hockey Team - Ann-Sophie Bettez and Jordanna Peroff -will be present as well.

The Redmen and Marlets  are both coming off outstanding 2010-2011 seasons.

Rooths President Martin Routhier, a former Redmen captain, is reviving the Score with School Program he introduced while serving as president of the Montreal Juniors. In the coming weeks McGill players will visit local schools to illustrate the importance of focusing on education and striving for a university degree.

More than 3,000 students from the EMSB and LBPSB will be in attendance. A number of prominent athletes, including former football player Steve Charbonneau,  will be at the game to reinforce the importance of education.
