EMSB PROMOTES MEDIA LITERACY WEEK THROUGH FACEBOOK CONTEST
MONTREAL, OCTOBER 17, 2011 – As part of Media Literacy Week (November 7 to 11), which this year is focusing on digital citizenship, the English Montreal School Board is launching a contest to engage more students via Facebook.
The EMSB launched its Facebook page (www.facebook.com/emsb1) two years ago and has close to 1,500 “likes", originally known as "fans". It has been a successful method of communicating with students, parents and staff. The EMSB also has a Twitter feed (@emsb109) and both YouTube (EMSB TV) and Vimeo channels (Vimeo EMSB TV).
Beginning November 1, the EMSB will step up efforts to get more “likes” via a contest. All new “likes” to the EMSB page will be eligible to win a number of prizes such as gift cards from Chapters/Indigo, over $600 in jewellery from Les Chemins d'Or such as a Rebecca bracelet ($400), a gentleman's bracelet from Arrezzo ($150) and sliver earrings from Silverovsky ($125) as well as a number of other great prizes. Anyone who previously does not “like” the EMSB on Facebook can log onto www.facebook.com/emsb1 and click “like”. All of these entries throughout the month will be tallied and entered into a drawing in which the winners will be chosen at random.
Gift cards to Chapters/Indigo were purchased as prizes in order to encourage students to visit the book store in person or online at www.chapters.indigo.ca and select from thousands of engaging titles which will persuade them to continue reading.
