Twenty-four EMSB students, four each from Lauren Hill Academy, Laurier Macdonald High School, Marymount Academy, Rosemount High School, Royal West Academy, and Vincent Massey Collegiate ably represented the youth of Canada at the 2004 International Summit on Children, Poverty and Violence held on October 22 and 23 at the Holiday Inn Montreal Airport Hotel. Sponsored by the Montreal-based Organization for the Protection of Children’s Rights (O.P.C.R), this summit paired students from Canada and Cuba with adult delegates from around the world in discussion groups on the Global Child with respect to Health, Education & Literacy, Legal & Social Protection / Violence, and Food & Nutrition. Our young people were well prepared, passionate and articulate in their contributions to solutions and recommendations to achieve results in resolving the problems of poverty and violence faced by children world-wide.
