The former Wagar High School building was formally renamed The Giovanni Palatucci Facility at an emotional ceremony attended by 300 people on May 16 in Côte Saint-Luc. Giovanni Palatucci saved the lives of 5,000 Jews destined to die in death camps during World War II. The keynote speaker was Major General (retired) Lewis MacKenzie, who has commanded Canadian ground troops in some of the world's most dangerous places. Students from Laurier Macdonald High School in St. Léonard and Bialik High School in Côte Saint-Luc were part of the programming leading up to the renaming.
