The Regional Chapeau Les Filles Gala ceremony, which honours women studying non-traditional trades, was held at l'École des métiers de la construction de Montréal on April 12. The two English Montreal School Board finalists, cabinetmaking students Karen Forward and Pamela Shields from Rosemount Technology Centre, won $500 prizes and will now move on to the provincial title. The cabinetmaking program is designed to enable students to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to perform tasks such as reading plans and sketches, preparing and machining wood and related materials, assembling furniture or wood products, finishing furniture, installing fabricated items, restoring different styles of furniture and managing a small independent business. Program coordinator Robert Di Fabio is shown here with Shields(left) and Forward.
