The EMSB held its sixth Volunteer Appreciation Night on April 18 at Le Crystal in Ville St. Laurent. This year's event was held during National Volunteer Week. The theme was You Light Up Our Schools. The Gardenview Elementary School Choir served as musical guests. Global Television anchor Jamie Orchard and 940 Montreal business editor Luciano Pipia returned as the emcees. First Canadian Financial Services (www.fcfs-inc.com) and TransAmerica Life Canada, specialists in Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs), once again served as the title sponsors of event. First Canadian's president, Joseph Afshar, was the evening's honourary chairman. This year's Volunteer of Distinction was Penny Fenwick, who has been volunteering at Willingdon Elementary School in N.D.G. for 37 years. Also, a donation was made on behalf of the EMSB to Share the Warmth, a Montreal area community organization that prepares and delivers breakfasts, lunches and snacks to students in 11 EMSB schools. Please see the EMSB website (www.emsb.qc.ca) for a complete story on Penny, and log on to the Parent Info section of the website to review the list of volunteers.
