English Montreal School Board (EMSB) elementary students will be transformed into astronauts and live in space for a day during the month of May while carrying out a "space mission" within the 60 foot Station Spatiale Nationale Mobile (SSNM) which has been set up in the parking lot of the Giovanni Palatucci Facility (former Wagar High School) in Côte Saint-Luc. Former Canadian astronaut Marc Garneau helped "launch" the program May 1 when he addressed students from General Vanier and Honoré Mercier elementary schoosl in St. Léonard, as well as students from the Marymount Adult Centre and John Grant High School. Throughout the month students will carry out the scientific process in an environment which reproduces that of a space station, without the absence of gravity. This amazing project will allow students to discover the pleasure of living scientific activities in space while at the same time sensitizing students to careers in science and technology.
