More than 200 people hit the links June 28 at the fourth annual EMSB Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Lachute Golf Club. Noted businessman and president of the Montreal Impact soccer team, Joey Saputo, served as the honourary chair. Last fall, the EMSB distributed 30 cash scholarships to high school graduates from the previous year who were continuing their studies in a post-secondary educational program.
Proficiency plaques, designed by the EMSB's Rosemount Technology Centre, were awarded to golfers with the best score, top foursome, longest drive and closest to the pin. A special raffle featured a full set of golf clubs, a Martin Brodeur autographed jersey (to be presented by Brodeur himself during lunch at his Rivière-des-Prairies restaurant, electronic prizes, a weekend at Mont Tremblant, a sightseeing tour of Montreal by airplane, jewelery and a Shearling coat valued at $1,700. There was also a wide array of doorprize handed out.
Among the golfers were four Liberal Members of the National Assembly: Russell Copeman (N.D.G.), Tony Tomassi (LaFontaine), Pierre Arcand (Mount Royal) and Francois Ouimet (Marquette).
