Our Programs

Academics, along with an enriched learning experience, partnered with English and French language options are offered in our elementary and high schools.

Elementary School:

The EMSB elementary school program consists of K-6, and is divided into three cycles. Cycle 1 (Grades 1 and 2), Cycle 2 (Grades 3 and 4), and Cycle 3 (Grades 5 and 6).

For the student that wants to master the English Language our English Core Program offers 68% of English instruction and 32% of French instruction per day.

For the student that wants to master the French language our Extended French Program offers 50% or 68% of French instruction per day. At 50% the program offers French and English instruction equally from kindergarten to grade 6. At 68%, English is only introduced in grade 3. Prior to this all instruction is in French only.

High School:

The EMSB high school program consists of Secondary 1 to V (Grades 7 to 11) and is divided into two cycles: Cycle 1 (Grades 7 and 8), and Cycle II (Grades 9 to 11). Cycle I is the transition for students progressing from elementary school to high school. Cycle II is the preparation for certification. Certain courses in this cycle are compulsory while others are optional.

Secondary I, II, and III have Extended French Programs, which vary from 38% to 72%. In Secondary IV, in addition to a French language course, students may take history in French (Histoire) and in Secondary V, students follow French language courses only.

We also offer an English Core Stream. Students in this program receive their instruction in English with the exception of one course in French as a second language. In many schools it is also possible to take enriched French within the English Core Stream.
